Trane partnered with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, stewards 193 million acres across the country’s 154 National Forests and 20 National Grasslands. Challenged by an aging infrastructure, inefficiencies and high maintenance costs, county commissioners moved to restore the historical Pueblo County Courthouse to its original beauty, while improving energy management. Using a grant from the US Department of Energy, facilities management staff performed a comprehensive energy analysis of their buildings to determine ways to maximize efficiency, and developed a sustainability plan outlining their objectives to reduce energy use across county facilities by 5 percent in five years.
Wastewater Treatment Plant and Booster Pump and station upgrades collectively reduce energy use by 122,786 kWh a year, saving $10,400 annually, and qualify for incentives of nearly $23,000; Department of Commerce grants for plant exceed $196,000.
With a population of nearly 47,000, Hopkins County offers the friendliness of a small town, combined with outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities. As part of the community, Hopkins County Jail provides inmates for special area projects, roadside cleanup and an inmate culinary program. The jail also employs a variety of innovative programs such as recycling of waste, and a produce garden, which helps lower food costs at the jail.
The City of Newport News Juvenile Secure Detention Center was opened in January 2005 to provide a positive experience for detained youth in a safe and secure environment, while protecting public safety. The state-of-the-art facility utilizes the best practices in juvenile justice and features cutting edge technology. The program includes school for approximately 110 juveniles during the traditional school year. Evening activities include visitations, religious services, physical recreation, group sessions and
counseling. In alignment with its standard operations, when the center’s compressors failed, administrators implemented best
practices to get systems back up and running for the comfort of its detainees and staff.
Located in east central South Dakota, the three-story, 100 year old Moody County Courthouse was built to last. Constructed with fireproof cement and steel, the building has a Bedford Stone exterior and twenty-four inch concrete interior walls. The courthouse is decorated with beautiful murals, walls faced with white marble four feet up from the floor and black marble baseboards. The stairs are also white marble with wrought iron grill work and oak banisters, and lobby floors on each story are Terrazzo. Offices feature original oak floors with oak woodwork to match.
Warrick County Jail, a correctional facility in Boonville, Indiana, offers a wide range of services and programs for inmates, including medical, dental, mental health and pharmaceutical services. Educational and life skills training programs for inmates are also offered, as well as substance abuse counseling, meditation, music therapy and religious services. In addition, the jail provides opportunities for inmates to participate in a variety of community construction and maintenance projects.

In 2001 Allen County Public Library (ACPL), one of the top U.S. libraries, and its 14 locations had a varied collection of HVAC systems, controls, fire alarm, access, security and other systems. With the planned addition of 127,000 square feet and renovation of 240,000 square feet at the main library in Fort Wayne, ACPL used the opportunity to upgrade, standardize and integrate buildings, systems and equipment.
The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation purchased a three-year Trane Select Service Agreement for their 76,000 square-foot headquarters building. For the next three years Trane will maintain and service the building’s HVAC systems with a cap of $5,000 per incident. With a Select Service Agreement, Louisiana Farm Bureau gets all the benefits of a Trane Scheduled Agreement, plus parts and labor coverage for maintainable equipment selected by the customer and approved by Trane -- putting service and maintenance needs on a systematic, scheduled basis. A Select Service Agreement can cut unexpected breakdowns as much as 75 percent, reduce energy use up to 20 percent, cut downtime nearly 40 percent, and reduce repair and maintenance costs up to 30 percent.
Like many county governments, Clayton County faced rising energy and facilities maintenance costs. Significant system upgrades were needed to improve energy efficiency, and enhance employee comfort and productivity
Brown County is located in the south central part of Minnesota, approximately 100 miles southwest of the Twin Cities. The county is mostly agricultural, but also has many industrial and commercial businesses. Brown County has a population of 25,893, with New Ulm, its largest city, serving as the county seat.
Larimer County, located in north central Colorado, includes several mountain communities, as well as Rocky Mountain National Park. The county encompasses 2,640 square miles of irrigated farms, vast stretches of scenic ranch lands, thick forests and high mountain peaks. The beautiful area provides a wide spectrum of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
The Hawaii Air National Guard, 154th Wing, shares the Hickam Air Force Base facilities with the Pacific Command. The base is located on 2,850 acres of land adjacent to Honolulu International Airport. To support the painting operation and maintenance of the Air National Guard F-22 Raptor jets, a new low observable/composite repair facility was built. The facility, consisting of a 17,500 sq ft hangar/paint booth and a 17,700 support building, features sophisticated mechanical systems for climate control for aircraft painting operations.
Robins Air Force Base is the home of Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, the 78th Air Base Wing, and more than sixty other units that make up a vital part of the Air Force war-fighting team. It is the largest industrial complex in Georgia, employing a workforce of more than 24,000 civilians, contractors and military members.
